The great variety of projects funded by FOT are the expression of the Kwahu-Tafo community's vision, formalised, funded and put into practice by KTDC, and occasionally suggested by FOT and its supporters.
Since the formation of FOT in 2001 (and its achievement of charitable status in 2003) the Trustees have devoted their energies to the improvement of daily life in Kwahu-Tafo and building for its future. Soon after Humphrey Barclay's installation as Development Chief in Kwahu-Tafo he organised a three day Strategic Planning Workshop, which laid the foundations for the Development Council's operations. After a successful but relatively improvised first five years, the aspirations of the town were then reviewed in a KTDC Seminar held in Accra (facilitated by Georgina Owen, FOT Secretary), and shaped into a Five Year Plan for the years 2007-2011.
Three categories were devised (click on the links below for more details):
In each category the delegates from the community listed every aim they could think of, and chose priorities, and this Plan has formed the backbone of KTDCs policy since then.
After a first year devoted principally to Education, the community reviewed the satisfactory progress and asked the Council to concentrate on Sanitation in the second (2008). The focus is school toilets, public conveniences, the dredging of the town's silted-up river, and the promotion of clean drinking water.
