Bicycles

In January 2008 Kwahu-Tafo greatly benefited from a visit by Village Bicycle Project (click here for more information), whose mission is to distribute reconditioned bicycles to rural areas at half the local price, conditionally upon the purchaser attending a one-day maintenance workshop.

Four consecutive days of workshops were held in Tafo under the personal supervision of founder David Peckham, with his manager and chief trainer George Aidoo bringing a lorry-load of bikes of all shapes and sizes, from mountain bikes to old English post-office ones, from Accra. David, who works hard to collect his bicycles in America and the UK (click here for more information on Re-cycle) insists on 20% of each workshop participants being female, and is proud of the training and assistance he is able to give to farmers, teachers, schoolchildren and others at a maximum price of 25 US$ per vehicle.
